Foundational Gallery Skills delivered by Art on the Move

This workshop is designed to build confidence and capability for emerging and experienced artists, arts workers, and volunteers involved in gallery and exhibition work.

Participants will develop an understanding of the specialist materials and equipment used in galleries to ensure the safe handling, installation, and storage of artworks.

With a strong focus on safe and effective teamwork, the workshop combines theoretical learning with hands-on exercises. Emphasis is placed on industry standards and best practices for artists and gallery professionals.

This 2-3 day workshop is ideal for those seeking foundational gallery skills and artists wanting to learn how to professionally present their work in gallery settings.

Participants will gain hands-on experience and learn practical skills across key areas, including:
DAY ONE: 
  • Art handling
  • Preventative Conservation
  • Archival Materials & Packing, Storage and Transport
  • Condition Reporting
DAY TWO:
  • Installation
  • Exhibition Design
  • Maintenance and Cleaning
DAY THREE (Optional)
  • Exhibition installation continued
Cost: $20 for the three day workshop - optional attendance on day three.
